Full Text

Extract of a private letter from Berlin, June 20.

"Our conversation is chiefly engrossed in this city by the balls, concerts, reviews, and other diversions which have been exhibited since the arrival of the Hereditary Prince of Brunswick, the Princess of Prussia; but within these few days a report has been spread, that 40 battalions, and 12 squadrons of our best troops are ordered forthwith to march into Silesia, to be stationed on the Oder, the head quarters to be fixed at Breslau, and the chief part of the troops to be cantoned in Carol, Glogau, Wolaw, Roenberg, Brieg, and Scwurgaff, and a few at Liegnitz, and Neisse. - It is imagined these troops are intended, if occasion should be, to second the operations of the Russian corps in Poland, and to protect the partisans of Czartoryski from being overborne by any troops which might possibly be introduced by foreign candidates, who may still declare themselves. One fact is, however, certain, that our King is, at all events, determined to do his utmost to preserve to the Polish Nobility, their ancient privileges and immunities, and in particular the undoubted right they have of electing one of their body to reign over them."
