The Pittsburg Post claims that instead of the national debt having decreased during the last month, it has really increased. The Post says:
On the last day of June the debt—bonded—bearing coin interest, was $1,707,999,800. On the last day of July it was $1,700,491,800 and yet a reduction of $1,249,887 is claimed, whereas there is an increase of $1,493,000 in the bonded debt. On the last of June the "total debt," that is including all forms of the public debt, was $2,232,284,581; on the last of July it was $2,287,818,048, an increase of $5,529,519, in the public indebtedness of the country.
