From the Peoria Democratic Press,
How and when the delegates will meet--how and when the delegates are to be chosen, &c.
It is now generally determined by the organs of the democracy of the Union that the time and place for holding a democratic national convention to nominate candidates for President and Vice President of the United States, be held in May next, in the city of Baltimore.
The time and manner of electing the delegates to this convention are left to the people of the respective States as to them may seem best adapted to the obtaining of a fair expression of public sentiment.
It will be remembered by our readers that pursuant to a public notice a very large meeting, consisting of the democratic members of the legislature and others from different parts of the state, convened in the state house in Springfield last winter, for the purpose of making some arrangements preparatory to electing the delegates to the national convention, and after a full discussion of the subject, resolutions were passed recommending that the people in each judicial circuit of the state hold a convention to elect a delegate--there being nine circuits in the state a delegate from each will just give a number of delegates equal to the numbers of electors to which Illinois is entitled.
The certainty of the time and place for holding the national convention having been settled and it being left to the people of each judicial circuit to elect a delegate, it becomes necessary that the manner of electing that delegate should be attended to in due season, and that a suitable place be fixed on to hold a convention of delegates for the district for that purpose.
To begin then, it is respectfully suggested to the democrats of the several counties comprising our judicial circuit that they proceed to elect at their earliest convenience a number of delegates equal to twice the number of their representatives and senators in the legislature of the state--That they meet in convention at OTTAWA, in La Salle county, for the purpose of electing a delegate to represent our district in the democratic national convention to be held in Baltimore, and that the time of meeting in Ottawa be on the first Tuesday of the next term of La Salle county court, which will be the 16th of November.
