CALL ON GOVERNOR

Urge Him to Call Special Session to Act On Suffrage Think He May Be Persuaded,

RUTLAND, April 8.—Governor P. W. Clement gave audience yesterday afternoon to 10 women from Bellows Falls who came to ask him to call a special session of the legislature to ratify the suffrage amendment. The party represented the Suffrage league of Bellows Falls and is the first of several groups representing the state leagues who will make their personal petition to Governor Clément.

Governor Clement told the women that up to the present time he had not decided to call a session. He recommended that they circulate a petition for a referendum of the state which he thinks is the proper way of settling the question. The women said when they left after an hour's conference with him that they were optimistic about the situation, feeling that if the question were brought to the governor's attention by enough representative women from Vermont he would yield to their request.

Those who made up the party were Mrs. Robert R. Twitchell, Mrs. M. H. Ray, Mrs. J. Splan, Mrs. C. A. Tifft, Mrs. John H. Blodgett, Mrs. Edgar A. Guild, Mrs. John L. Clark and Mrs. William W. Sawyer of Bellows Falls and Mrs. Luther J. Bonney and Miss Houston of Middlebury.
