According to Request of President Roosevelt: Success Affairs Expected

According to a recent survey made of the county by Miss Agnes Pegram for the government.

With the staging of two balls in the city January 30, the fifty-third birthday of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, it is hoped that proceeds enough will be realized to aid those so stricken in this community.

It was a request, of the President that 70 per cent of the net proceeds from balls presented on his birthday to remain in the community that raised it to be used in fighting the disease and the other thirty per cent to go to a national fund to be used in research work toward eliminating the disease.

Last year this community raised something over $400 on a bitter cold night and sent it to national headquarters where it became part of a huge check that was presented to the President for the Warm Springs Foundation in Georgia.

It is the plan this year to have the affairs in the two military armories in the city. Company C. armory being used for a regular dance. and the Medical Regiment hall being used for a square dance, thus giving heated places in which to hold the affairs.

Elaborate plans are already under-way for the staging of these dances and the general chairman. C. B. Sturges, is expecting Henderson to raise an even larger amount of money this year.

Committees were to be completed at a meeting tonight at 8 o'clock in the Perry library and work will proceed at a rapid rate until the balls are presented.
