Irish Convention In New York, The Convention of the Irish "Emigrant Association" finally refused to admit as delegates the representatives of the "Emmett Monument Association." The upshot of the Convention has been the adoption of an address or platform, which is now given to the public. It is addressed "to the Irish Race, and the friends of Irish independence in the United States, in Ireland, the British Colonies, and elsewhere." The purpose of the Association is declared to be the fulfilment of the destinies of the Irish nation, for which so many patriots have toiled and suffered, and to accomplish which they believe that the present disturbed state of Europe furnishes a favorable opportunity. In furtherance of this purpose they declare that they have no intention of outraging any law of the United States, and from the opponents of their design they ask "only forbearance of censure." The main appeal is made to the people of Ireland, who are called upon to pronounce that it is their will to emancipate themselves from the thrall of a foreign Government, and on their doing so, it is promised that they shall not be left to struggle alone in the effort to accomplish that purpose. The Irish race in America is declared never to have been so rich in wealth, or so united in purpose, as at the present time, and as children of Ireland they are ready to avenge the wrongs of their mother-land by any means not incompatible with their duty to this country, whose Constitution they have sworn to maintain, and whose laws they will ever respect.
