The Next Exposition to be Held There Next Year.

Dr. G. del Amo, the local Spanish counsel, has handed to this office circulars setting forth the intention of the Spanish government to hold an exhibition at Madrid next year.

It will be called the Universal Exhibition and will be held from April 1 to October 31, 1894.

The affair will be held in the state property, the palace of arts and manufactures and dependencies, and is by command and under the patronage of her majesty the queen regent.

The exhibition will be divided into 14 groups—liberal arts, health, games, sports, chemicals and their manufacture, art manufacture, furniture, religious articles, textiles, metallurgy, forest, quarries, civil engineering, architecture, public works, machinery, electricity, transports, exchanges, alimentation, agriculture and various others.

While the exposition is international in character, it may not be divided into distinct foreign sections, goods of the same class, to whatever country they may belong, being exposed together, though kept distinctly separate, so as to render comparison easier and study more practical.

The awards will be given by an international jury and will be as follows: Diplomas of grand prize, honor, gold medal, silver medal, bronze medal and honorary mention.

No fulminating or detonating material or any damaging goods will be received, nor can the administration represent any firm at the exhibition. A committee of representation has, however, been authorized, which will look after such exhibits at the exhibitor's risk.

In the case of periodical or continuous opening of the exhibition at night exhibitors are bound to keep the stalls opened for inspection as during the day.

None of the goods exhibited are to be sold at public auction or ordinary sale, upon immediate delivery the exhibitors having the right to acquaint the public by means of catalogues in the show cases where similar wares can be obtained in Madrid. None of the goods are to be allowed out of the premises before the close of the exhibition.

The officers of the general council of the exhibition are first honorary president, Field Marshal Jovellar, also ex-premier; president, Alexander Pidal, ex-minister and president of the chamber of deputies at Madrid, and Juan Navarro Reverter, member of the cortes, ex-commissioner of Spain at the Paris universal exhibition of 1889 and vice-president of the international jury of awards at the Barcelona universal exhibition of 1888.

The members and honorary members include the leading men of the country.
