Gus Protos, a Greek, who was arrested on complaint by Walter Brown, charging him with drawing a gun and threatening to shoot him, was brought to trial late Saturday at Judge Geo. T. Koenig's office, but so far has received no punishment whatever, outside of being placed under bonds of $200 furnished by his employer, Frank Kotsonis, of the College Inn cafe.
Protos is establishing a court record. Saturday's appearance before Judge Koenig has been his third in the last forty five days. He was represented by City Attorney Glenn W. Weese, while States Attorney represented Brown. Because of Mr. Wiley's having too many indictments to write, the case was postponed for ten days and Protos placed under bonds to assure his appearance on the date set for the trial.
At the trial Protos stated that he did not strike Brown first and that he thought Brown was making an attempt to lift the register of some cash. Several witnesses of the scene alleged that Brown struck Protos first immediately after he had pushed the key on the register.
When the trial is taken up again, the matter will be thoroughly threshed out. Attorney Henry Kelly will represent Kotsonis and Protos while States Attorney George Wiley will prosecute the charge.
