Wade Requests
Special Funds For
Fish Trap Fight

JUNEAU. (UPI) - A bill to provide a $25,000 emergency appropriation requested by acting Governor Hugh J. Wade was introduced in the Alaska House late Friday.

There was no immediate explanation from the Governor's office or legislative leaders on what emergency the appropriation was to cover. But it seemed clear the money would be used to hire special legal counsel for Alaska's proposed intervention in the fish trap owners' suit against the Interior Department ban.

Wade asked the Legislature for special funds for a legal fight against what was then only an expected challenge of the ban. The suit has since been filed. The Interior Department will handle the case against the trap owners' requested injunction and Alaska is expected to intervene on the side of the government.
