1614 Boys and Girls Of All Ages, A Gain Of 153 Over Last Year—Boys Take Lead
A recently completed school census in district 7 reveals an increase of 153 children of all ages to 20 years, Miss Rosella Fritz, clerk of the board, said this week. The greatest gain, 48, is in the pre-school group.
Last year there were 728 boys of all ages, while girls totaled 733, giving the girls the majority, five. This year the situation is markedly reversed. There are now 839 boys compared to 775 girls, which gives the boys a plurality of 64. The grand total last year was 1,461 children. This year the district has a total of 1,614 children.
Of school age last year were 458 boys and 482 girls, while this year there are 541 school age boys and 504 girls. The total gain in the groups from 6 to 20 years is 105.
The pre-school group last year contained 270 boys and 251 girls, a total of 521. This year there are 298 boys and 271 girls, totaling 569. The gain is 48.
The beginners, aged 6 and 7, in 1947 consisted of 79 boys and 78 girls, a total of 157, while the 1948 figures are 109 boys and 81 girls, a total of 190 and a gain of 33.
Group 8 to 13 years, inclusive, had 208 boys and 216 girls last year, a total of 424, and this year has 223 boys and 222 girls, a total of 445. This group shows a gain of 21.
Group 14-15 figures are 58 boys and 57 girls, totaling 115 in '47, and 68 boys and 71 girls, totaling 139 in '48. The gain is 24.
In the group of 16 to 20 years: there were 113 boys and 131 girls last year. This year there are 141 boys and 130 girls. The total last year was 244, and this year it is 271. The gain is 27.
