THE CUB'S COLUMN
By W. TORRIN

The program was going on at the annual graduation banquet of the University Filipino Club last week at the Hotel Butler when, all of a sudden, water poured down from the ceiling.

The University Filipino Club, in trying to be exclusive, or in common parlance high-toned, found a place where a little Niagara was exhibited.

There seems to be a sadly mistaken notion among these University Filipino kids that to hold a banquet in a place not popularly known among night club folks is a disgrace to their group. There is no sense in strutting like a millionaire with a school boy's purse.

A banquet in honor of Filipinos graduating from the University of Washington should be held at a place where the citizenry of the Filipino community could go, or afford to go, and join in giving honor where honor is due. A graduation banquet of that kind should feature a Filipino group at most. And a Filipino program and Filipino atmosphere would but be in order.

These are days for work, at least for Filipino students who have been in school classes all winter. It is all right to work and make money for one's honest purposes. But to make money by subordinating one's principles is not a sound principle. So much so when it comes along with one who calls himself a student.

Make money in an honest and honorable way, but don't sell your most precious principle.

And, by the way, don't misconstrue Dean Bocobo's statements while addressing the Filipino mass meeting two weeks ago. You must read between the lines. You must know Dean Bocobo thoroughly in order to get the perspective of his true ideals and philosophies. Dean Bocobo stands for nothing short of righteous, honest, clean, Christian-like, and Godly.
