Sarsaparilla, The sanative qualities of this root have long been in high repute. It is unequalled for its purifying effects upon a system disordered by medicines or disease, and in the present days of quackery has been seized on as a means of money making by speculators in patent medicines. It is undoubtedly the most useful and harmless of the whole list of advertised nostrums. The following directions will enable persons wishing to avail themselves of its benefits to do so without paying the enormous prices charged for the " Extract."
Take two ounces of Spanish Sarsaparilla, split the roots and boil in a covered vessel three hours. It will make a quart of the infusion, strong enough for use and may be taken clear, which is best, or made more palatable with sugar. The root will cost six cents at the druggist's. and will go as far as a bottle of the " Extract" which costs fifty cents. Another infusion may be made from the same root, by letting it stand in hot water twenty-four hours.
