Rev. O. W. Lynch, pastor of Matewan's Methodist Church, was the principal speaker at the Armistice program conducted at Magnolia high school Wednesday forenoon.
Rev. Mr. Lynch, who served for two years as a chaplain in an infantry division, spoke on the subject, "The Oneness of the Minds of God."
He observed during his address that the mercies which bound men of different nations together far exceeded national barriers.
The program opened with the pledge to the flag and a song, "The Star Spangled Banner."
Doris Ann Bell read the 85th Psalm.
Betty Tomblin gave the dedication to men who gave their lives in past wars, and especially to the boys of Magnolia high school who gave their lives.
Mrs. Kathryn O'Brien's Glee Club sang two numbers: "White Cliffs of Dover" and "My Buddy."
Taps and a prayer by the speaker concluded the program.
Assembly programs at Matewan this year are handled by a committee: Mrs. Jane Smith, Mrs. Kathryn Talbert, and Tom Blankenship.
Two weeks ago, the first assembly of the year was given, a United Nations program.
Wednesday's program was the second of the present school year.
