AGREEABLE PROSPECTS.
It is highly gratifying to observe the increasing spirit of enterprize among the people in various parts of the country, as it respects roads, canals, improved methods of transportation by land, and in regard to domestic manufactures, etc.—
The conviction appears to be at last prevailing, that the day of universal speculation, of mushroom fortunes, and of luxurious living, is over for the present; and that the time has arrived when we must commence a rigid scrutiny into our accounts and our resources; when we must set our deranged affairs in order, and begin business on a new scale, and in a new channel. The people seem to be looking about them in good earnest, to discover where their true and permanent interest lies: and, with the spirit of research which now animates them, they cannot long remain ignorant of their true policy; and it is a most promising circumstance, that while INDUSTRY is getting into public favor, her sister TEMPERANCE is not forgotten: while our legislatures, corporations, &c. are endeavoring to foster the spirit of enterprize in domestic improvements & manufactures, the synods and other respectable bodies, in various parts of the country, are investigating and exposing to public view the prevalence and miserable effects of intemperance. The best wishes of the good and the wise must accompany every effort to countenance industrious and discourage vicious habits,
