Full Text
An Outrage on Bismarck.
Our eastern contemporaries are doing Bismarck a great injustice by stating that small pox exists in this city. The Minneapolis Tribune of the 7th inst., in its column of "Northwestern News Notes" contained the following:
"Thirty-five cases of small-pox are reported in Bismarck."
This is a thirty-five ply lie. There has not been a case of small-pox in Bismarck for over three months. The man who wrote the above paragraph is either a malicious dog or an ignoramus. In either case unfit to occupy a position giving him the power to malign and injure an entire community. He should have known that if there were that number of cases in Bismarck, or even a quarter of that number, the fact would be a topic of common conversation throughout the length and breadth of the land, and could have been readily verified. Such an item will be circulated broad cast over the country, greatly to the detriment of Bismarck's boom. Newspapers will give space to it when they would not to a contradiction of the lie. The item is startling, sensational and untrue, but the denial is true and therefore, in the estimation of the common run of journalists, of no interest to the general public. There has not been a case of small-pox in Bismarck this winter.
