The Republican of last week has an article of half a column in length, under the caption of 'Military Strategy in Plymouth. A Rebel Battery Taken,' which is remarkable for the genius displayed in its composition, and its destitution of truth. It would make its readers believe that the Black Walnuts, on the occasion referred to, executed marvelous military movements unequalled save by their great chieftains Fremont and Pope, in the Shenandoah. And talks as glibly of 'squadrons,' 'skirmishers,' 'double-quick,' &c., as though the author had trained with the Videttes or had read of the glorious 'train-boy band' of yore.
The facts are as follows:
The abolitionists, mad at many defeats, at a late hour in the 'wee sma' night,' 'screwed up their courage to the sticking point' and advanced cautiously, under cover of friendly shadows, down to 'honest corner,' upon a careful examination they discovered 'nary' Democrat in view; all were gone; string every nerve to its highest tension, casting a manly fear, even disregarding danger, heroically resolved to do or die. This little band of Walnuts rushed bravely upon the demoniac anvil and after a short, desperate struggle, overcame it, captured it and bore it in triumph back into the shadows! The deed is done, and now we have heroes in our midst.
