Dr. E. Frederick Morrow, Advisor on Business Affairs, U. S. Department of Commerce, will be the first of three distinguished speakers to speak in conjunction with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity's 36th observance of Education and Citizenship week today in the Morehouse College 9:00 o'clock chapel services.
Formerly a member of the public relations staff of Columbia Broadcasting System, New York, Dr. Morrow will be followed on Thursday by Otis Simmons, choirmaster Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Ark., and Dr. Walter Booker Head of the Department of Pharmacology, Howard University, Washington, D. C., on Friday.
Initiated in 1920 on a nationwide basis by the fraternity, Education and Citizenship Week was designed to encourage America's Negro youth to continue their formal education through high school and college.
Mr. Morrow is the brother of John H. Morrow, Head of the Department of Modern Foreign Languages at Clark College and sworn into office by Secretary of Commerce, Sinclair Weeks on September 14, 1953. In this position he acts as liaison between the Commerce Department and other agencies the Federal Government and world on programs designed to rectify conditions which may adversely affect business growth and stability.
In 1937 he became field secretary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and except, for his tour of duty with the Army from 1942-1946, held that position until October, 1950 In 1950 he joined the staff of the CBS Network in New York City
During the 1952 Presidential campaign, he served on General Eisenhower's campaign train as a consultant and advisor.
At a smoker scheduled for the speakers in the Walu Room of the Waluhaie Apartments on Thursday night, Alpha Phi, Clark College and Eta Lambda, graduate chapter will join with Alpha Rho of Morehouse College to fete the speakers.
