Fresh Enough For You
When we see green groceries in our markets, we don't remember those days when it was practically impossible to buy fresh vegetables in a grocery during winter months. It wasn't so long ago that our grocer had difficulty in obtaining radishes, cauliflower, brussels sprouts and strawberries at any time except when they were in season. When he did get them they carried quite a price on their heads.
Today we can go into the neighborhood grocery and get almost as fresh fruits and vegetables as in the summer. This is especially due to improved refrigeration, quicker transportation and many hot-houses catering to winter and early spring. We know that the price is slightly higher when we buy vegetables that are out of season and when we will grow them later on in our own back yard, but many housewives are willing to pay more so that now and then their family can have better health and better taste with fresh vegetables.
