Our Excuse.—If anything in these
Centennial times requires an excuse, we
believe it is the uninteresting items and
general appearance of the JOURNAL this
week. Being patriotic, like everybody
else, editors, compositors, devils and all
hands connected with this establishment
took a lively interest and active part in
the celebration at this place, and being
human it is not to be expected that they
could faithfully celebrate the event of a
hundred years and get over it in two days.
We know there is very much that should
be said this week, but we are equally
well aware that we are not in a condition,
either physically or mentally, to say it in
decent shape. Everything considered we
feel that the JOURNAL force are making
martyrs of themselves in doing any work
at all this week, and we know that our
readers will be lenient in their criticisms
in this issue of our paper. Nobody at
any rate, can think it is worse than we
ourselves do.
