Full Text

A report from Atlin, B. C., says that Horace Rutherford, a member of the office staff of the Engineer mine, has been missing since February 7. Rutherford had left Engineer on skates to go to Ben-My-Chree, some 12 miles away, taking with him the mail for Mr. and Mrs. Partridge and Miss Dalton. He had been warned that the ice might not be safe, but he disregarded the warnings thinking that everywhere on the lake the ice would be as safe as in the vicinity of the mine. On Wednesday, February 10, Superintendent Brinker sent out a search party, but no trace was found of the missing man. He had not reached Ben-My-Chree. A fall of snow had covered any tracks that otherwise might have been apparent. There can be but little doubt that Rutherford went through the ice.
