Full Text

Distressing Accident.--On Saturday morning, the 20th ult, Captain Gabriel Penn, of the county of Patrick was accidentally shot through the head with his own gun! The circumstances are these :--He had called that morning at his relation's Mr. James Penn--had set his gun, as he walked into the house, against the steps, and in a few minutes, was told that he had better move it, and taking it up for that purpose, the lock, or cock, was obstructed in some manner, and it went off with the whole load of shot, passing through his head, entering just under the ear.

We scarcely know in what language to comment upon this melancholy and awful occurrence. The shock upon the whole country around, is considerably felt--and to a large family of connexions, it is really heart-rending and overpowering.--Lynch. Vir.
