A sailor on the Italian bark Leonida having a spite against the second mate of the vessel, carried off a couple of cages of Italian paroquets and cardinals. Detective Wetherhorn was put on the case, and recovered all the birds but two or three, which, it appears, were lost overboard in taking them from the ship. The Italian consul advised the owner not to prosecute for larceny under the circumstances, the offender having paid all the costs and also for the birds that escaped.
