Police Tuesday were holding two in jail on blanket charges of suspicion while detectives sought to unravel what they declared to be an extremely tangled case.
Those under arrest were Walter Clark, 20, of 630 Ira street, southwest; and Will Trice, 36, of 22 Whitehall terrace.
According to a report made at police headquarters by Radio Patrolmen Turner Wallace and J. D. Buice, they answered a call to Crumley and Whitehall street where they found Trice had been shot in the right wrist.
He named Clark as the man who shot him. Clark when arrested by the two officers admitted shooting Trice, but said that the wounded man was attempting to hold him up with a knife at the time he fired.
George Ray, 53, of 12 Ray's alley told police that Trice had held up and robbed him of $25 an hour before he was shot.
Police Tuesday sought James Williams, of 580 Larkin street, after Willie Hamp, of 571 West Fair street, reported that Williams had held him up at the point of a shotgun and robbed him of $9. The robbery occurred at Hamp's house, according to Williams.
