Notwithstanding the impartial administration and deserved popularity of Governor Brooks, we learn that the democrats of Massachusetts contemplate opposing him at the ensuing election. We are at a loss to discover in what Governor Brooks has been so unfortunate as to offend the fomenters of this intended opposition, unless they have taken some exception to the praise, with so much candour bestowed, in the following extract from his late Message, upon the national Executive:
They too (the people of Massachusetts) ever ready to render the tribute of gratitude and respect when it is due, as vigilant to guard their rights, derive high satisfaction from the national system of commercial laws now in successful operation, under the auspices of the illustrious Chief Magistrate of the United States; whose administration commands our confidence and our approbation.
