Last Evening arrived here from St. Michael's one of the Western Islands, Captain James Clark, who brings an Account of one of our Men of War taking a Spanish Galleon with 37 Millions of Dollars on Board. and carried her to England : he was taken near the Western Islands in her Way to Spain. There were five of them, not in Company. which were to sail soon after this, and that there were two Large Gallies cruising off the Island to meet them, to furnish them with Men, which they had on board for that Purpose.
Captain Clarke, informs farther, that he spoke with the Superbe Man of War. who informs him that he and two more Men of War, stationed off the Island to Cruise for the other Galleons : and that there were four French Men of War cruising Likewise to meet with the Galleons. to Convoy them Safe to Port : That one Day the English Man of War Saw the four French to the Windward of them lying by,but did not offer to bear down, and that another of our Men of War had taken a very rich Spanish Ship, loaded with Money and Hides from Colona, in the Brasils. and carried her to Madeira, he says that the above News was credited in the Island.
