The Lynchburg Virginian infers that Mr. Calhoun and South Carolina intend to maintain an 'Armed Neutral' stance on the Presidential question, a position criticized by some of Calhoun's friends in the state against Mr. Rives. Full Text

We infer, that Mr. Calhoun, and of course South Carolina, intends, so far as the Presidential question is concerned, to maintain the attitude of an Armed Neutral—a position, by the way, which some of Mr. Calhoun's friends in this State loudly censure Mr. Rives for assuming. Her determination will doubtless be fortified, in this particular, since she has seen the manner in which the Sub-treasury Whigs (Hunter, Mallory &c.) have been treated in this State, by their new allies!—Lynchburg Virginian.
