Full Text

Capt. Parsons arrived at Savannah the 21st ult. from Martinico, which place he left on the 4th. He informs of a French privateer which had been successful in her depredations on our commerce, in which calling she had accumulated 50,000 dollars, taken out of the different vessels which he had fallen in with. With this sum, the privateer returned to Guadaloupe, having 8 American prisoners on board. The Frenchmen (leaving 5 of their number) went on shore to recruit themselves; this was too good an opportunity for American penetration to lose sight of; they accordingly politely desired the Sans Culottes would walk overboard, which they did: the Americans then took possession of the privateer, and proceeded with the money to St. Thomas's where they arrived safe.
Capt. Parsons further informs, that a number of vessels were prepared at Martinico for a secret expedition, supposed against Surinam or Cayenne.
