WIZARDS !
The federalists of Massachusetts are very cunning men indeed, and quite as valiant as they are cunning. They pompously proclaim, in the first place, that the Republican Administration has a design of going to war with England ;and, in the second place, they sagely resolve that it is not expedient to go to war with that power. As New-England is famous for her seminaries of learning, we are surprised that the gentlemen have drawn their conclusion before they have established their premises. We know of only one species of logick by which their procedure can be justified, and that is the logick of Don Quixotte, who very gravely decided that the wind-mill was a giant and then heroically assaulted it. This is certainly a very convenient method of procuring a reputation for sagacity, if for nothing else, as it is only requisite to resolve upon paper, and the thing is done. Whilst they are in this way, the federal legislature of Massachusetts might as well resolve that the Republicans of the United States had determined to set the town of Boston on fire, and by another resolution insist that it was expedient to put the fire out. This would be following up the game they are playing at present, and would just as clearly prove they are no incendiaries as their late proceedings establish that they are, patriots, But we humbly hope that we live in an age and in a country when and where we may judge for ourselves ; and that we shall not be compelled to believe that the Moon is made out of Connecticut Cheese because the Essex Junto declare it to be so by an act of legislature.
