Full Text

The Lands. It will be noticed that the city council has authorized H. M. Chase to represent the county at Washington in the matter of school lands. We apprehend that this step will involve the county in an expense without any corresponding benefit. The government grants lands to states and territories in aid of public schools, but has never recognized counties. The proper way would be for the Governor to present this matter to the consideration of the Department at Washington, and then we have no doubt it would be properly adjusted.
