Full Text
The following appears in a Washington paper over a Lottery advertisement.
Tune--"The Bobbies."
Ye lantern-jawed Bards, pray assist me to sing
Ben Treen's great name; till the welkin shall ring:
No longer from sheriff's and constable's hide
But jump on your swingle-tailed ponies and ride
To Ben O. Tyler's, Ben O. Tyler's
Ben O. Tyler's; Gee up and gee O.
Ben Tyler has guineas as plenty as dirt,
As numerous as fleas on a Musselman's shirt--
Melodious as wild notes that float on the gale,
And as flashing and bright as a lightning bug's tail.
Then speed ye to Tyler's, speed ye to Tyler's,
Speed ye to Tyler's, gee up and gee O.
The bankers want money to take up their notes,
And the broker wants money, to take up a draft.
And the dandies want money to pay for their coat,
And the mason wants money to pay off his craft--
Speed ye to Tyler's, speed ye to Tyler's.
Speed ye to Tyler's, gee up and gee O.
The Council wants money to pay for their hall,
And Carusi wants money to make a great ball,
And the Ladies want money (as much) in three weeks
As will buy all the barbers who shave for the Greeks.
Speed ye to Tyler's, speed ye to Tyler's.
Speed ye to Tyler's, gee up and gee O.
Ye love-stricken swains, who are dying of grief,
Ben Tyler now proffers you instant relief
Come purchase a ticket before they're all sold,
And like Jupiter woo with a shower of gold.
Speed ye to Tyler's, speed ye to Tyler's.
Speed ye to Tyler's, gee up and gee O.
