Route to Baltimore Fast Materializes
Construction of the Chesapeake
Bay bridge connecting Baltimore with
the Eastern Shore will be started
early in January, promoters said last
week, in view of the approval given
to their plans by the State Roads
Commission. Stuart S. Janney, at-
torney for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge
Company, said that bids would be in-
vited at once and when they are in
and the cost of erection is known the
matter will be submitted to the Pub-
lic Service Commission for approval.
The present estimate of the cost is
$11,000.000 for the extension from a
point near Back River to a point in
Kent county. The main bridge will
be six and a quarter miles long, and
with approaches and fills the entire
length will be ten and one-tenth miles.
The bridge, it was said, will be second
in length only to one over the San
Francisco bay, which is now in con-
struction and which will be the long-
est in the world.
