Full Text

Five persons were killed by a gas poisoning at Monroe while they slept in their beds. The dead consist of the Henry Butts family, husband and wife, two boys, 3 years and 18 months, and Otto Pohl, Mrs. Butt's brother. The discovery was made by Mrs. Cline, a neighbor, who called and receiving no response entered the house. She found the five bodies in the upper rooms. It is assumed that the family had been dead for several days when found as they moved in from a farm a week before and upon their arrival started a furnace fire. They were not seen since and the surmise is that they all died from the poisonous fumes emitted by the burning coal.
