Chicago, June-(CNA)—Vigorously assailing efforts to set one oppressed group against another by stirring up anti-semitism among Chicago Negroes, the Chicago Urban League has appointed a committee to investigate the situation.
Action of the Urban League followed several months of distribution on the South Side of "Dynamite," a paper the main purpose of which is the creating of anti-Jewish feelings among the Negro people.
The investigating committee, which held its first meeting this week, consists of Earl B. Dickerson, chairman, Dr. Louis Binstock, Attorney E. B. Pierce, Miss Amelia Sears, and Attorney T. K. Gibson, Jr. The committee was selected at a special Executive Board meeting at the Central YMCA, when a resolution condemning Anti-Semitism was also adopted.
The resolution assails those who would develop "open strife and bitter antagonism between two racial minority groups in the United States which, for the good and for the preservation of democracy should at all times work in harmony and in happy accord each with the other."
Referring to allegations that certain Jewish merchants have been taking advantage of Negroes, the resolution declares that "The League feels that such criticism and condemnation should be directed against the guilty individuals and not against the whole race to which such individuals belong."
