Election.—At a large convention of delegates from the several towns in the tenth district, held in Taunton, on the 1st inst. to adopt measures to secure the re-election of Mr. Baylies, as a Representative of the district in Congress, Artemas Hale was elected Chairman, and James C. Starkweather and Oakes Ames, Secretaries.

A series of resolutions, and an address to the electors of the district, were unanimously adopted. The following are the resolutions.

Resolved, That as Massachusetts, the earliest battle ground of American liberty—has come forth, as a State, with all her original power and spirit to the support of the Constitution and the Laws, we will endeavor to do our duty and our whole duty in this District, on the 15th inst. in supporting the same cause, so that our beloved Commonwealth may present an unanimous and undivided front in the national councils.

Resolved, That a Post Office department, which in four years, has expended all its surplus funds and run in debt for nearly half a million of dollars, and whose chief officer has been adjudged guilty, by an unanimous vote of the Senate, of a gross and palpable violation of the Constitution of his Country, and who is still, in defiance of such vote, retained in office, stands in need of a thorough and immediate reform, and that it is the duty of the people to select such representatives to Congress as will advocate such reform.
Resolved, That we consider the question of the recharter of the United States Bank, as decided by the people against the Institution, so that it will expire in about one year by the original limitation of its charter.

Resolved, That we view, with apprehension and alarm, the selection of a great number of local State Banks as depositories of the public monies by the present Executive department of the United States, controlled by the Executive, whose officers are mostly devoted partisans of the present dominant party, and that there is reason to fear an allied system of small Banks to control elections, reward partisans, and thus by their patronage exercise an undue control over the people and the Government.

Resolved, That the Hon. WILLIAM BAYLIES has faithfully and ably represented this District in the Congress of the United States, and that it is peculiarly important to this District and the Commonwealth, that a gentleman, of his great experience in public affairs, his high character, various knowledge and distinguished abilities, should be elected to represent us at this time.

Resolved, That as no complaints have been made against the manner in which the Hon. William Baylies has discharged his public duties, but as his course has met the approbation, not only of his own constituents as expressed by their memorial submitted to Congress, but also of the whole State, it is due to him, and to ourselves, and to our fellow citizens out of the District, that he should not be compelled to retire from a situation which he has filled with honor, for no alleged fault.
