Gomez Out; Puritz May Be Successor

A Unity Party spokesman confirmed Thursday the report that Senator Joseph A. Gomez is definitely retiring from the political hustings.
The retirement of Gomez, according to the spokesman, was decided at the time he last entered the election campaign in 1960, and he will be held to this commitment.
While affirming that Gomez would retire, the spokesman refused to reveal whether a successor is being groomed.
Observers of the local political situation had been led to believe that David Puritz, a relative of Gov. Paiewonsky had the inside track as a possible replacement for the seat now held by Gomez.
The choice of a party candidate to replace Gomez is the province of the Unity Party Convention, the spokesman emphasized.
Time and place of the convention were not made known.
