Whig Congressional Convention.

There appears to be a very diminutive bit of a squabble going on between the whigs of La Salle and the whigs of Cook, in relation to their congressional district convention, the drift of which we are unable entirely to "get the hang of."

On the 18th of March last, it will be remembered, the whigs of La Salle held a county meeting at this place, when, "inasmuch as there existed no organized body of whigs within this district whose peculiar duty it was to call a congressional convention," they took it upon themselves to recommend that a convention to nominate a candidate for congress be held on the 25th of May, and that the number of delegates from each county be equal to double its representation in the general assembly; and during court week they held another meeting and appointed six delegates in accordance with this arrangement. At least a week after all this had taken place, the whigs of Cook, apparently without taking any notice whatever of the previous doings of the La Salle whigs, issue their decree, ordering the convention to be held on the sixth of June and suggesting an entirely different ratio of representation from that suggested by the whigs of La Salle. But the La Salle whigs, it seems, are determined not to "knuckle under" to the whigs of Cook, and have issued their decree, persisting in calling the convention in accordance with their previous recommendation.

Now this looks queer. Have the Cook whigs "given in," or is this a regular collision? If the latter is the case, we say hurrah for the whigs of La Salle! They were the first to fix the time and mode of holding the convention, and it was exceedingly bad breeding in the Cook whigs to alter either without their consent.
