Full Text

Cumberland.

A Portland schooner, the Nellie Starr, Capt. Thomas Colby, encountered a hurricane on New Year's night. She sailed from Boothbay for Savannah, N. C., and arrived the 15th. She lost her foresail and mainsail, and everything was washed from the decks, the bulwarks and poop deck stove, filling the cabin with water and causing the vessel to leak badly. The hands were at the pumps for three days. Mrs. Colby, who was with her husband, worked all night bailing out the cabin and helping in every way she could to save the vessel. Her husband and the crew are proud of their noble shipmate. Capt. Colby belongs in Bath, and was married last summer.
