Charged with driving an automobile while intoxicated and running into an automobile driven by Dick Norman and occupied by members of his family, John Luckie and Will Jamison, colored were arrested Sunday afternoon by Sheriff Quinn and lodged in the county jail. The incident occurred on the West road near the home of R. B. Hartness, the car driven by Luckie smashing into the Norman car although little damage was done to either vehicle and no one was hurt. Immediately after the occurrence the sheriff was notified and in a short time discovered the two negroes who tried to speed up when he ordered them to halt. The sheriff finally forced the driver into a ditch and the two were captured. Luckie and Jamison both admitted that they had been drinking but declared that they had only drank seventy-five cents worth of liquor which they said they had bought from an unknown negro who was doing business in a patch of woods Sunday afternoon near St. John's church, colored, at Sharon. No liquor was found on their person at the time of the arrest. The negroes gave Gastonia as their home.
