Three Los Angeles attorneys, and their wives, visited in Juneau today while their 115-foot twin-screw diesel engine yacht, the Elvida, berthed for several hours. The Elvida came from the south at 10:30 a. m.
Thomas R. Dempsey, owner of the yacht, Mrs. Dempsey, and their two daughters and son-in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Wellman T. Thayer and Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Herbst, are aboard the Elvida. Dempsey, Thayer and Herbst are associated in the law firm, Dempsey and Mackay, specialists in taxation.
The party left Los Angeles on June 18. They sailed leisurely up the Inside Passage and went into Tracy Arm, where they ran into ice floes. Cities where they berthed included Sidney, Vancouver, Prince Rupert and Ketchikan.
Fishing, enjoying the scenery and "hoping it would stop raining" were their pursuits on the vacation voyage, Mr. Dempsey said. They have had two clear days since leaving Seattle, he said.
Mr. Dempsey will leave the Elvida in Seattle and fly back to Los Angeles in time to return to his desk July 26. The others will sail back to Los Angeles in the yacht.
Capt. Henry Durham, master of the Elvida, has sailed Alaskan waters for a score of years.
