DAMAGING EVIDENCE AGAINST DEFENDANTS

Nashville, March 31.—The most important evidence which the inquest at Cookeville into the death of Raphael Purmutter, the soldier, recently murdered, there was heard today when Letta Hill, a negro woman, told of seeing a soldier pass her home in company with Jim Madewell, John Kirby and a third man on the afternoon that Purmutter disappeared.

The woman said about 11 or 12 o'clock the same night she heard four shots, a sound of blows and a voice speaking in broken speech. The disturbance was on a hill a few hundred yards from her home.
