SCROLL SAWING.
In the Green Mountain Freeman of December 15, I see that "Young Farmer" recommends the study of astronomy, as being an interesting amusement for winter evenings. I hope that some of our young friends will be led to take up the study, as much profit can be gained by it. But I took up my pen to say a few words about scroll or fret sawing, as it is a very pleasant way of passing an occasional stormy day, as well as the long winter evenings. I greatly enjoy following the lines of a pretty design with my saw, and after it is cut out, if a friend happens to want it, I take pleasure in supplying that want. I have during the past six years sawed out many brackets, picture frames, hanging baskets, easels, etc., and have found much pleasure in so doing; and to readers of the Freeman who have a little leisure this winter, I would advise them to get a scroll saw and see what they can do in the line of decorating the walls of their home; and if they have more articles than they wish to give or sell them to their neighbors. There are a great many beautiful articles that can be made with one of these saws, that are useful too, as well as ornamental, and in most places one's surplus productions can be disposed of at a fair price.
