James Firield, of Woodbridge, one of the number, relates the following pleasing incident, which happened to a small company of them on their journey home.
Mr. F. in company with five others from Woodbridge, took up their line of march for home on Friday, and commenced a sixteen mile walk to the Milwaukee R. R., to save the expense of stage fare which was no small item of economy to them.
After travelling a few miles they were overtaken by a gentleman in a sleigh who invited them to ride. The gentleman was very free in making enquiries as to their condition, names and residence.
Upon arriving at the R. R. station, our Woodbridge friends enquired of their friend the price of their fare; when the gentleman handed them a ten dollar bill and told them to divide it among the number.
The astonished volunteers, after thanking him, very anxiously enquired their friend's name, who told them when they got down South fighting the rebels to remember Moses Wisner, who wished them success in their loyal and noble purpose.
The boys again thanked him heartily, and gave three hearty cheers for Ex-Gov. Wisner.
