What the Press of the State Says About the Democratic Candidate.
The Bummer Element.
Lafayette Journal.
The Indianapolis Democrats have nominated Tom Cottrell for mayor. He represents the saloon and bummer element of his party, and was able, through these influences, to defeat so good a man as Mr. Cass Byfield.
Everything That Is Bad.
Greencastle Banner.
Tom Cottrell was selected by the convention of Thursday night as the Democratic candidate for mayor of Indianapolis. He is a pronounced representative of the Liquor League, and has a reputation that smacks of everything that is bad in municipal government.
They Have Complete Control.
Kokomo Gazette-Tribune.
The nomination of Mr. Cottrell by the Democrats of Indianapolis as their candidate for mayor proves that the Liquor League and the bums have complete control of that party, and they now propose to take the city by the throat in the old "what are you going to do about it" style. The Republicans should choose their strongest man for a leader and mop the virgin soil with the disreputable gang.
A Fine Bit of Sarcasm.
Shelbyville Democrat.
The nomination of Tom Cottrell for mayor by the Democrats of Indianapolis last night was the very thing to have done. He has always been an enthusiastic party worker, and has never enjoyed any of the fruits up to this time. We have known him for twenty years, and in all that time he has been working like a hero for the Democratic party. The convention that met at Mozart Hall last night did a just and prudent thing in recognizing this old pack horse for the party. He is a man of the people and will make a splendid mayor. The nomination furnishes a pointer to the vacillating and cowardly course of the State officers, who have been lacking in sand for the past two years in the performance of their duty. The Democrats of Indianapolis mean to say by the nomination of Tom Cottrell that they do not approve of the course of Murphy or of the State officers. All of these men should take a tumble, and do a little something now for the Democratic party, as they have done enough for our friends, the enemy.
