Fosters Into "House of Commons"
Never let Mrs. John Foster or her daughter, Amelia Jo, Midway Pike, hear you say, "What's in a Name?"
The Fosters are but recently returned from an extended European tour. By contrast, they sailed from Montreal aboard the Arosa Star for a ten day crossing, returned home by plane taking off from International Airport in London at 9:30 in the evening, had breakfast on the plane and an 11 o'clock lunch in Columbus, Ohio.
The itinerary included England, Scotland, Wales, France, with much that interested them all along the way. The English they stated, they found quite friendly.
One of the things which appealed to them was a visit to the House of Commons. In conversation with an English woman Amelia Jo expressed the desire and was told to write a letter to "Hon Charles Gibson," with whom the woman was employed. In complying with the suggestion, Mrs. Foster wrote,
"I am from London, Ohio and have traveled a long way hoping to see how laws are made in London, England. I would appreciate it if you could help me.'"
Further following out the suggestion they went to a designated gate, presented their letter were beckoned in by a genial little gentleman, walked past hundreds who were awaiting admission to "The House." and were ushered into an upper gallery where only three or four others were watching what was going on on "the floor."
In conversation a short time later with the gentleman who befriended them he asked did they know what made him comply so quickly with their request; though there was surmise, the reply was no and came back quickly "Because you said you were from London, Ohio." So it was they found the "London." that was the magic word and got them where they wanted to go.
