'God's Trombones' Repeat On C.B.S. Television Today

"God's Trombones" readings from a celebrated collection of folk poems based on Negro sermons from the days of slavery, will be repeated on "Lamp Unto My Feet" Sunday, Nov. 6 (10:00-10:30 a.m. EST) on the CBS Television Network.

Harold Scott, who selected and arranged the James Weldon Johnson poems, will read them on the broadcast. He will be supported by the choir of the Union Baptist Church of Montclair, N.J., under the direction of Saffel Huggs.

Johnson based his poems on sermons delivered by Negro preachers in the late 18th century, during the flood tide of slavery in America.

"God's Trombones" was originally presented on "Lamp Unto My Feet," on April 12, 1959. The program, on film, was produced by Richard Ellison and directed by Jim McAllen for the Public Affairs Department of CBS News.
