MEETING OF COMMON COUNCIL.

At the regular meeting of the common council on Monday evening, Mr. Robinson was called to preside, as Chairman Bate was absent. The regular business was suspended in order to hear a delegation of Scott street residents who appeared in order to urge improvement on that street. Michael Nealon spoke in behalf of the deputation. Mr. Healey also addressed the council on the general condition of streets in that section of the city. The bills presented by J. Russell Jones for typewriting the new rules of the board of health, and by S. Ressigrue were ordered paid. The council concurred in the measures respecting the September street department pay roll and the salaries of the city assessors for October. A communication from the joint street committee asking the common council to reconsider the action in awarding a contract for furnishing 1,000 feet of hose to the city was read. Mr. McDonough spoke against its being reconsidered. Mr. Case called attention to the point that it was too late to reconsider at the second meeting held since the contract was made. The select council will receive a notification of this rule. A number of resolutions were brought up in regard to fire hydrants and changes in the position of street lights, and some general subjects were considered.
