With things almost back to normal for the first time since gasoline rationing went into effect on December 1, officials of the El Centro price and rationing board were able to breathe easier and clear up a bit of confusion Tuesday.
For the first time in a week there was not a long queue of worried motorists or commercial vehicle owners standing on the steps of the rationing board office Tuesday.
Mrs. Margaret Foster, clerk of the board, said that evidently most people with business at the office had been taken care of.
She released a table of the different ration books, their value and dates of expiration:
"A", "B", and "C" books are for passenger car use. The basis "A" coupons, to which every car owner is entitled, are good for four gallons of gasoline. The first coupons to be used are good until January 21. Each succeeding series of stamps will be good for a two-month period until the last stamp becomes void on July 21, 1943.
"B" and "C" stamps are also good for four gallons, but the expiration dates are different, according to the number of stamps issued. They must be used only after the "A" stamps have all been used.
"D" books for motorcycles expire at the same time as do the "A" books. "D" stamps are good for 1 1-2 gallons of gasoline.
"E" and "R" stamps, which are issued for non-highway use, are tailored to fit individual needs and expire at varying dates. "E" stamps are good for one gallon and "R" stamps for five.
"T-1" and "T-2" stamps are good for five gallons each. They are also valid for different lengths of time.
