Bill Introduced by Congressman Davenport To That End.
Washington, D. C., April 18.—An appropriation sufficient to pay the Miami Indians residing in the states of Indiana and Oklahoma, or elsewhere, interest at the rate of 5 per cent per annum upon the principal sum paid said Miami Indians under and by acts of Congress approved March 8, 1891, and March 2, 1895, from the time said principal sums became due by wrongful payment of their moneys and allotment of their lands to other persons not entitled to them on the dates of the payment, is provided for in a bill which Congressman Davenport has introduced in the House.
The bill provides that the sums shall be computed and ascertained under the direction of the secretary of interior, provided that he shall ascertain and identify the persons entitled to share in the distribution of said money, and the amount of the pro rata payments to be made to each under such rules and regulations as he may prescribe.
