EARTHQUAKE. The effects of this visitation of Providence were severely felt about 10 o'clock, on 2d inst. by the inhabitants of St. Ishmael parish, a rumbling like distant thunder, and continued for about 20 minutes. A solid gray rock, adjacent to the Sandy Shore, and parallel to the sea, opposite Rock in Milford harbour, was rent asunder, and separated by a thousand pieces, throwing large fragments of it to a considerable distance; the rocks and part of the hill, on which a thriving plantation of timber growing, were separated from the main body. In this dreadful convulsion of nature, many of the trees split and torn up by the roots. The noise was terrifick, and was heard many miles around. A continued noise is still heard in the rocks, like the breaking of dry sticks.
