ELKO COUNTY BOYS AND GIRLS WORK PRAISED

The Elko county exhibit of sewing and handicraft work of the boys' and girls' club at the homemakers week, recently held in Reno, attracted no little attention from those who saw it.

Many articles beautifully made were sent to the exhibit. Some are deserving of special mention.

The small wagon made by Calvert Stephens, age 11, of Cobre, was particularly interesting, as it had been made from a chalk box, a part of a broom stick, and a soap box, from which the wheels were cut. The limited supply of tools that this boy had to work with would put older heads than his to work.

The boys from the Signal school in Clover Valley, conceived the patriotic idea of making breadboards from soap box ends in order that only the required amount of bread should be cut at meal time, thus conserving wheat.

The pieces which the sewing club exhibited showed neatness and skill of training.

From Carlin came an array of undergarments so beautifully made by hand that one was reminded of the exquisite needle work of our grand mothers of a century ago.

The holders and tea aprons made by the smaller girls were carefully made and were very neat.
